Abstract

433,578. Speedometers. SIMMONS, E. G., 24, Hartington Terrace, Brighton, Sussex. Sept. 5, 1934, No. 25567. [Class 106 (iii)] In a speedometer or rate of revolution counter, an abutment 2a on the " actual " speed-indicating pointer 2 engages supplementary " maximum " pointers 6, 7 so that when the speed is increasing these pointers 6, 7 are moved to indicate the maximum speed attained, and are subsequently released successively at predetermined intervals of distance or time, so that one pointer or the other always indicates the maximum speed attained over successive intervals. The automatic device for the alternate release of the pointers 6, 7 may comprise pawl and ratchet mechanism 14, 15 adapted to be tripped either by pins 19 on arms 18 driven by the mileage spindle 10, or by solenoid and contactor mechanism, or by a time switch or clock. In a modification having only one supplementary pointer, means are provided to ensure that this pointer always gives the maximum speed indication over successive regular intervals.
