[Class 83 (iv)] In a plate straightening machine the lower straightening roll ends 37 together with supporting means 56 are relatively adjustable to flex the straightening rolls. In Fig. 1 the rolls 16 are mounted in swivel bearings 17 carried by bridge supports 18 adjusted by screws 19. A centre support roll 27 is carried by a bridge support 56 and is similarly adjusted by a screw 30. Stationary swivel supports 66, 76 are fitted. The screws 19, 30 are adjusted by worm gearing 20 from a hand wheel 34 in opposite directions to flex the rolls 16. The upper rolls 13 may be similarly adjusted or may be adjusted vertically by hand wheel 14. The rolls 13, 16 are rotated by flexible connections 26. In a modification, Fig. 5, the support 56<a> is stationary and the supports 37, 66<a> are differentially adjusted in the same direction. In a further modification, Fig. 6, the roll 16 is supported by a roll 35 mounted in fixed ends 42. To flex the roll 16 the bearings 37, 56 are adjusted in opposite directions. The number of rolls 27 supporting end roll 16 may be increased and the position of the fixed supports may be varied.
