Abstract

431,098. Cylinders. NASH, F., Sheepridge, Little Marlow, Buckinghamshire. Aug. 11, 1934, No. 23212. [Class 7 (ii)] A six-cylinder overhead-valve engine has, in each cylinder, a single inlet valve d inclined at 45‹ and a pair of exhaust valves e, the diameter of each exhaust valve being two thirds that of the inlet valve. The exhaust valves are arranged radially in a spherical part of the combustion chamber roof and the inlet valve in a flat part ; the sparking plug is located at a<2>. The admission passage for the three cylinders at each end of the block are separate and each comprises a balancing chamber j<4> connected to its downdraught carburetter by a flange j<1> and to the cylinders by a three-branched manifold j, each branch leading to passages in the block which gradually increase in cross-sectional area as they approach the ports. The exhaust passages e<1> diverge as they leave their cylinder ports. The valve gear, which is enclosed in a casing h comprises separate inclined rockers g for each exhaust valve.
