430,142. Hose clamps. BORRESEN, H. A., 318, West Randolph Street, Chicago, U.S.A. Dec. 3, 1934, No. 34702. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1933. [Class 44] A hose clamp of sheet metal has an opening in one end through which the other end passes, the free end beyond the opening being turned up to form a flange to take a tightening-screw and the other end being cupped to receive the end of the screw. Fig. 1 shows a clamp made in two parts 10, 11, the narrower part 10 passing through an opening 13 in the wider part 11 which has a series of. bridge pieces 20, 21 to engage the hooked end 19 of the strip 10 to enable the clamp to be roughly adjusted to different sizes of hose. The bridge pieces are stamped up to allow of the inner surface of the junction to remain continuous. The end of the part 11 is bent up and screw-threaded to take a screw 12, the end of which engages a cupped end 14 on the strip 10. A part 15 stamped out from the hole 13 serves to reinforce the bent-up flange. In a modification the strip 10 has outwardly punched projections engaged by an inwardly directed hook on the part 11 to effect the coarse adjustment and the coned end of the screw projects through a hole in the cupped end of the part 10. Fig. 12 shows a clamp made from a single strip of metal cupped and apertured at its wider end. The narrower end has a series of holes 32 through one of which a screw 30 is passed and the end of the strip is bent over a round-edged nut 31. By making the wide end twice the width of the narrow end, two such strips can be stamped out with the greater part side by side as shown in Fig. 13.
