Abstract

428,220. Elastic knitted fabrics. RAVEN, F. R., and RAYNOR, H. A., 52, High Pavement, Nottingham. Nov. 8, 1933, No. 31109. [Class 74 (ii)] An elastic fabric possessing stretch in two directions, has courses composed of an elastic thread and a non-elastic thread, knitted therein as one, and courses containing a laidin elastic weft. The preferred fabric is knitted on a circular machine as 1 and 1 " royal rib " or " half cardigan". Certain courses consist of wrapped or coated elastic threads 11, and textile threads 12, knitted together, the former under the greater tension. A silk thread 13 is knitted by the cylinder needles (wales P) and tucked by the dial needles (wales R), and is fed in just before a comparatively thick elastic thread 10, which is laid in so as to force the plain loops 13P to the front of the fabric, and to be enclosed in the roll formed by the tucking. At spaced intervals, bands of plain 1 and 1 rib may, as shown in the lower part of the drawing, be knitted from threads 11 and 12, the thread 10 being laid in and the fabric severed midway in these bands. The garment, e.g. a corset, may be shaped during knitting by controlling the tension or amount of the laid-in thread 10.
