Abstract

427,522. Flat knitting - machines. STOLL, H., and STOLL, R., (trading as REUTLINGER STRICKMASCHINENFABRIK H. STOLL & CO.), Reutlingen, Wurtemberg, Germany. July 6, 1934, No. 19907. Convention date, July 8, 1933. [Class 74 (ii)] A flat knitting-frame having an adjustable stroke is characterized by cam plates grouped in casings adapted to slide in the longitudinal direction of the frame, and set by pattern mechanism through draw-bars passing longitudinally through the frame, the reversings of locks, thread - guide changes, &c., being effected by sliders and the like independently of the reversal of the carriage. Cam plates 39 ... 44, and 39<1> ... 44<1>, one or both of which may be slidably mounted, effect the change of thread-guide, each corresponding pair of cams (e.g. 39, 391) being actuated by pattern mechanism 27 through chains 45<a> and one of drawbars 33... 38 (e.g. 33). Two other groups of cam plates 56, 57, reverse the cams, and are likewise actuated by pattern mechanism 27 through chains 45 and drawbars 55. Adjustable stops 13, 14 reverse the carriage 11 through reversing lever 12 and gear 10. Assuming the carriage to be travelling in the direction of the arrow a striker 23 encounters, first a member 191 of a rocking lever 19, which gives way to the left (Fig. 3), and then the member 18<1> of a rocking lever 18. This latter rocks a shaft 22, and so, through lever 24, and rods 25, 26, actuates a cam member 31, thus releasing a driver 29, which couples a worm wheel 28 fixed to the drive, to the driving shaft 72 of the pattern mechanism. This shaft makes one revolution and sets the various cam plates. The carriage 11 continues to travel in the same direction until the lever 12 strikes the stop 14, when the carriage is reversed. Axial movement of the drawbars adjusts the cam plates by pins moving in oblique guide slots (e.g. 76). Cam sliders 60 disposed perpendicular to the direction of movement of the carriage, set cam members 79 through pins 78, provided with noses 77. The slidable cam plates can be coupled at convenient points with their drawbars by means of notches and latch levers, or pins 67. The drawbars are so disposed that the carriage may be taken out at any convenient point. As shown, the rocking lever 18 is connected by a bow 17 to the stop 14, which is, in turn, coupled to the cams 39<1> ... 44<1>.
