Abstract
427,211. Loose-leaf-binders. BOLTON, F. B., Griffiths House, Queen Street, Brisbane, Australia. Jan. 23, 1934, No. 2289. [Class 146 (i)] A temporary binder for sheets of paper &c. comprises a pair of back-plates slidable one behind the other to vary the depth of the back and permit the removal or addition of sheets, an anchor plate attached at right angles to each back-plate, telescoping posts and tubes attached to the anchor plates parallel to the back-plates, and means comprising a spring tongue secured to one end of and lying in a slot in one backplate and having a projection engaging a slot in the other back-plate for limiting the separation of the back-plates but permitting them to be taken apart, if desired. Anchor plates B, C, Fig. 2, are integral with back-plates B<1>, C<1>. The plate C<1> slides in flanges B<2> on the plate B and is provided with a slot in which engages a projection D<1> on the end of spring D riveted to the plate B<1> and lying in a slot in the plate. The projection D<1> thus acts as a stop when the anchor plates are drawn apart for the removal or introduction of sheets, but may be pressed back out of the slot when it is desired to separate the back-plates entirely. The anchor plates B, C carry toothed posts E and slotted tubes F respectively and an apertured, and slotted follower plate G is adapted to engage the teeth E<1> as they project through the slots in the tubes. Alternatively notches in the tubes F may be used or the plate G may have friction-gripping means. By sliding the plate L longitudinally it may be disengaged from the teeth. A flat spring H is adapted to press the papers, which are provided with apertures and slits leading from them to the edge, up against the follower plate. The plate B is riveted to a portion of a cover between hinge levers A<1>, Fig. 1, and, when the papers have been filed, and the plate C pressed down to its normal position, the tops of the posts E are engaged by slotted holes in a locking-plate J<2>, which is slidably mounted in an apertured plate J on another portion of the cover. To enable the posts to be laid flat for convenient manipulation, the plate B may be hinged to the cover along one edge.
