Abstract
375,502. Carrying means for books &c. STOKES, H., 50, Boston Place, Dorset Square, London. May 21, 1931, No. 15069. [Class 133.] In carrying or retaining means for books and the like of the kind having at the top and bottom members carrying a number of prongs 16, 30 to enter between the leaves of the book 12, one at least of the members being movable, the movable member can be releasably locked in the book-engaging position by the engagement of an element 24 on a resilient strip 22 with an element 25 on the movable member, the elements being disengaged by depression of the strip 22 into the slot 28 in the back portion 11 of the carrier or binder, and engaged by simply pressing the movable member to the book-engaging portion. The vertical portion 17 of the movable member slides in a guideway formed by attaching a plate 18, to the back of the carrier, and doubling over the ends thereof to form channels 19. The movable member may be moved by means of the projection 25 or an additional projection may be provided. Stops engaging cut-out portions in the movable member limit the movement thereof and the spring portion 22 is formed by cutting slots 23 in the plate 18. The end of the strip 22 may be curled round as at 26 to receive a suspending cord, chain, or handle 27. Stiffening plates 14, 29 may be located on the interior of the carrier to receive the fastening rivets for the parts 13, 18. Spring means may be provided for pulling the movable member into the bookengaging position. The carrier may be made to accommodate one or more books of the same or of different sizes. Either or both of the members may be movable. Covers 10 are provided for the carrier.
