[Class 103 (ii)] [See also Group XXXIII] A windscreen fitted to the open cockpit of an aircraft so as to provide an unobstructed view in a forward, lateral, or rear direction comprises a fixed, transparent front section and a movable transparent rear section, which, when in its closed position abuts the front section to enclose the top of the cockpit, but which, when in its open position, permits the pilot to move his head above or to one side of the front section. As shown, the windscreen comprises a fixed tapering front section 10 and a two-part rear section 13, 14, the tapering part 13 of which is fixed and the part 14 slidable on guides 15. A ventilation gap 16 may be left between the parts 13, 14 when the cockpit is enclosed. The track 15 may be straight, as shown, or curved to allow the part 14 to move into the aircraft body parallel to the part 13 and comprises channels 17, 18, Fig. 3, on each side of the cockpit adapted to enclose guide members, such as rollers 20 carried by lugs 19 secured to the part 14. Handles, a winch and handle, or a quick-thread screw may be provided to operate the sliding part 14 and locking-gears to retain it in any position.
