Abstract

426,110. Electrolytic furnaces. MONTECATINI SOC. GENERALE PER L'INDUSTRIA MINERARIA ED AGRICOLA, 18, Via Principe Umberto, Milan, Italy. July 21, 1934, No. 21384. Convention date, July 22, 1933. [Class 39 (iii)] An anode free from metallic parts for an electrolytic cell comprises a bundle of baked carbon blocks 1 mortised together in such a way that new blocks may be fitted on to the bundle as the electrode is consumed. Each block is provided with a groove 4 and a projection 5 for the dovetailing. The anode may be circular or polygonal in cross-section and may be hollow and filled with self-baking conductive paste. The paste is supplied with current by divided tubular members 12 inserted in holes in the paste and expanded against the sides of these holes by the action of wedges operated by a rod 11. Current is supplied to the carbon anode by contact plates 3 carried by bands 2. The electric connections are raised up the electrode as the latter is consumed to prevent any metal coming into contact with the electrolytic bath.
