Abstract

423,891. Vehicle bodies. PRESSED STEEL CO. OF GREAT BRITAIN, Ltd., Cowley, Oxford, and WILKS, S. B., Claybrook Grange, near Rugby. Dec. 8, 1933, No. 34565. [Class 108 (i)] In metal vehicle bodies the outer side stamping or panel is at its lower edge formed as one part of a box-section structure, being secured to a longitudinal stamping of angle or channel section having its upper portion sloping downwardly to the level of the floorboards. Fig. 1 shows the box-section structure comprised by the lower part of the side wall 11 being turned in horizontally as at 12 to rest upon the chassis member 14, the threshold part 17 of the door being provided with a returned portion 22 forming a channel for a weather strip 19 and to which a downwardly sloping closing strip 20 is secured, the strip 20 having a flanged portion 24 resting on the chassis 14. A valance 26 is secured to the box section and to the chassis transverse members. The floor boards 25 are mounted as shown. Fig. 2 shows the side wall lower portion 12 and the upper portion 20 of the box section connected to a closing channel section 30 secured to the chassis 14. In Fig. 3, a separate valance is dispensed with the box-section structure being formed as shown.
