422,779. Knitting. HOSIERY DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd., 30, Park Row, and MILLS, R. K., 3, Edwards Lane, Sherwood, both in Nottingham. April 18, 1933, Nos. 7877/33 and 11495/34. Divided out of 422,801. [Class 74 (ii)] In a ladder-proof knitted fabric of the type described in Specification 329,098, [Class 74 (ii)], the locking yam c is preferably of finer gauge than the locked yarn b and is laid in sufficiently loosely for the loops to be of substantial curvature when the fabric is unstretched. For drawing and measuring off the required amounts of locking yarn the sinkers are provided, above the throat 7, with a catch 9, 10 stepped as shown. The throat 7 extends back past the vertical edge 10. For making the locking stitches the needles are provided with supplementary latches and the cam box of the machine is provided with supplementary cams. To tighten the locking stitches proportionally to the locked stitches as knitting proceeds down the leg of a stocking &c. a ring 13 mounted on the end of the main cam drum 12 is periodically racked so as to allow a cam segment 15 carried therewith gradually to displace a push rod 20. The rod 20 is connected by intermediate connections to a radially slidable plate on the sinker ring and this plate carries a cam device serving to withdraw the sinkers the required amount.
