[Class 19] A pair of pivoted plates 18a, 27, Fig. 1, with side plates 18b forming a socket are mounted on a U-shaped framework 11 engaging the edge of a pail and means 36 are provided for swinging the one plate 18a relatively to the frame and towards the second plate 27 to squeeze a mop therebetween. Various modifications are described. A wet mop is placed in the pocket formed by plates 18a, 18b, 27 and the handle 36 is engaged in a padded clip 25 and moved towards the plate 27. The plate 18a is moved to the left and the plate 27 is engaged by rollers 33 on the end of pivoted levers 30 which increases the squeezing movement as the plates approach one another. Water from the mop passes through holes 18d &c. into a drain pan 35 and so back to the pail. The whole wringing device is to prevent the operator bending over a hot pail. When the handle 36 is swung back, spring means press the plate 27 back to normal and the mop can be removed. Rollers 33 can be adjusted by placing bolts in different holes 12c. In a modification, Fig. 6, a mop is placed between plates 45, 43a and sides 40c. The handle 36 is moved as before and the plate 45 is moved against rollers 49 mounted in bars 46 adjustable in slots 40d so as to cause the closer approach of the plates or a greater leverage in the movement of the plate 45. In another modification, Fig. 10, a handle is passed between an adjustable roller 371 and a member 31<1> to operate a plate 30<1> pivoted at 29<1> towards a second pivoted plate 28<1>. The pressure of a mop between the plates moves a pivot 251 to the left in a slot 28a and rollers 40<1> will be drawn along a cam track 28c<1>. In a further modification, Fig. 20, a pail 201 is shown with a partition 20a<1> to support the frame of the wringer. A mop is squeezed between plates 631 and 55e<1>. The plate 63<1> swings about the pivot 65<1> while bars 59<1>, 571 act as a toggle with increasing leverage on the plate 631.
