Abstract

396,469. Cleaning vehicles, floors, &c. COOPER, M. K. and COOPER & CO., Ltd., M. K., 11, Red Cross Street, Liverpool. Feb. 24, 1932, No. 5479. [Class 19.] An appliance for cleaning vehicles, floors, &c. comprises a pad 1, Figs. 1, 2, and 4, of sponge rubber or other absorbent material, with ends 1a overlapping part of a stiffening plate 12 to which it is secured by means of a fabric or like flexible material 14 adhesively or otherwise attached around the ends 1a. The material 14 is clamped by screws 11 between the plate 12 and a backing plate 10 to which a hollow handle 2 is attached. The handle is connected to a source of water supply, the water flowing through apertures in the plates 10, 12 and through a perforated portion of the fabric sheet 14. The pad 1 may be squeezed to expel moisture by means of a roller 20 carried by a U-shaped frame 21 which is pivotally mounted on a pair of lugs 25 provided on the backing plate 10. The frame is turned by hand so that the roller 20 sweeps over the operative surface of the pad 1, cam slots 27 on the lugs 25 being engaged by pins 26 on the frame 21 to control the pressure of the roller against the pad 1. In a modification, the frame is provided with cam-faced members for engagement by pins on the lugs 25. A squeegee 29 may be provided at the front of the appliance. In the construction shown in Figs. 7 and 8, a roller 32 is carried by a frame 33 which is connected by springs 34 to a frame 35 provided with a roller 36 guided in a slot in the backing 10. By manipulating the handle of the frame 33, the roller 32 may be drawn across the pad under pressure effected by the springs 34.
