Abstract
422,226. Forming laps, fleeces, &c. of fibrous material. RACCOLTA AKT.- GES., 7, Stadthausquai, Zurich, Switzerland, and BUNZL, H., 51, Himmelstrasse, Vienna. Aug. 14, 1933, No. 22658. [Class 120 (i)] [See also Group VIII] In the production of laps, fleeces, &c., of fibrous material the partly unravelled cellulose or wood pulp is fed at 37, Fig. 1, into the first of a number of separator chambers 9<a> .. 9<d>, employed in series, the material being opened by rotating beaters 38 and the loosened fibres, under the action of an air current rising from nozzles 11, being collected on a circulating filter sieve 12 which is moved across the top of the series of chambers and is under suction applied through a pipe 16. The sieve 12 may be provided with covering strips 18 to form detached pads on the portions 17, Fig. 2. The fleece 19 is covered with bands 20, 21 of paper or fabric the covered fleece then passing successively between rollers 27, 28, Fig. 1A, while supported by bands 25, over a bridge 29 and a band 30, between rollers 32, 33 and over a band 35. To divide the lap laterally the roller 27 may be formed with a central edge bearing on a smooth roller 28. Alternatively. they may be formed as interengaging knurled rollers, or a circular knife may be arranged between two adjacent knurled rollers 27. The roller 32 may similarly be formed with a transverse knife or knurled strip to cut off longitudinal portions. The air introduced at 11, Fig. 1, may be heated, moistened or charged with a binding medium while the edges of the composite product may be closed together with latex or by pressure only. For bandages &c., one of the coverings 20, 21 may be liquid proof while a superior product may be obtained by covering the compound sheet with layers of longer fibres, e.g. cotton.
