422,073. Converting. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Mittag, A. H. ; 1455, Dean Street, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Sept. 14, 1933, No. 25501. Convention date, Sept. 14, 1932. [Class 38 (ii)] To ensure parallel operation of discharge devices in a converting arrangement having groups of parallel connected grid controlled discharge devices 15, 16, 17 and 18, 19, 20, inductances 21 are inserted in the cathode leads of the devices and the grids of each group connected to one side of a secondary winding of a grid transformer 28, the other side being connected to the cathodes through resistances 27. When a discharge device (e.g. discharge device 15) commences to conduct before the others in the group, the voltage drop in the inductance 21 is impressed across the seriesparallel connection of resistances 27, thus applying a negative bias to the grid of discharge device 15 and a positive bias to the grids of discharge devices 16, 17. The two secondaries shown may be replaced by a single centre tapped winding. With this arrangement the de-ionizing current of the discharge devices may flow directly from the secondary winding through the grid-cathode circuits of the two groups of discharge devices and the inductive windings 21. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a modification, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), in which the centre tapped secondary of the grid transformer 28 is connected to the grids through resistances 27, the centre tapping being connected to the lead interconnecting the inductances 21. In a modification of this, to enable a multiple anode discharge device with a single cathode to be used, the inductances are arranged in the anode leads and inductively coupled to the grid circuits. Modifications of the inductance arrangement are described. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
