[Class 99 (i)] A pipe is joined to a plate B or a coupling sleeve E by a soft packing-ring C and a coned washer D located in a recess b<1> in the plate or sleeve, the washer being flattened by a caulking tool to compress the ring round the pipe, the washer spreading so that its edge engages in a groove b<2>. The sleeve E connecting two pipes may be recessed at e<4> to allow of angular adjustment of the pipes. The edge of the recess is bevelled at b<3>.
