Abstract
420,038. Changing signs. RELF, A. G., 391, Hornsey Road, Upper Holloway, and MACRAE, R. S., 211B, Adelaide Road, Hampstead, both in London. March 24, 1934, No. 9311. [Class 3 (i)] An advertising device or signal lamp comprises two plain or coloured stencils or transparencies 7, 8 located one on each side of an inclined transparent mirror 4, a source of light 13, 14 being disposed behind each stencil &c. for alternate illumination. The stencils &c. are thus seen in succession by reflection and by direct vision respectively. The stencil &c. 7 is covered by a transparent mirror 11, or by a matt &c. surface, to ensure that it is not seen by reflection while the stencil 8 is being viewed. The device may be mounted in a cylindrical or polygonal casing 1 having grooved end walls 2 held together by tie-rods 16, the whole being adjustable pivotally on brackets 17. The rod 16 between the lamp compartments is surrounded by felt, rubber &c. 15 to prevent light leakage. The lamps 13, 14 may be switched on and off by hand or by a thermal switch 20 located below a base 9. Medial plates may be employed to divide the sign into compartments showing different displays, and a shade may be provided over the viewing window 10.
