419,863. Stays; hinges. VOIGT, R., 187, F³rstenwall, D³sseldorf, Germany. May 1, 1934, No. 13135. [Classes 65 (i) and 65 (ii).] A window or like stay bar is fixed at one end to a pivot pin forming a brake disc which is enclosed by a clamping member on the window or sill, a handle being provided to actuate the clamping member to hold the window in any position. The device is shown applied to a stay-bar d having a pin at one end sliding in a guide c on a window frame a while the other end is pivoted to an inwardly-opening window b. The latter end of the stay is fixed to a large pivot pin g bearing in a split socket e which can be tightened to grip the pin or disc g, and thus hold the window in any position, by a handle f having a face cam p bearing against a similar cam q fixed to the window, rotation of the handle causing it to move away from the window and draw on the inner part of the socket e by means of a bolt h ; a stop pin l prevents movement of the handle beyond the position in which the highest parts of the cams p, q are in contact. In modifications, the stay-bar d is made telescopic or is formed of two parts hinged together, the other end of the stay being pivoted to the window frame in each case. For windows opening outwardly, the friction pivot is preferably inverted and attached to the window frame, the other end of the stay being slidably or pivotally connected to the window, according to the construction of the stay.
