Abstract

419,296. Hydraulic presses. MILLMAN, C. H., and DOVE, G. H., Standard Works, Evington Valley Road, Leicester. May 5, 1933, No. 13122. [Class 69 (ii).] In an embossing press, more particularly for operating on boot and shoe parts, the die b is operated hydraulically by a device comprising a rotary impeller carried by a piston within a liquid-containing cylinder c, and driven so as to cause a difference of pressure between the two sides of the piston. Specification 363,137 describes such a device. The piston is connected to a rod f pivoted to toggle levers g, g<1>, one of which is pivoted to toggle-levers h, h<1>. The upper end of the lever h is connected to a spring-retracted lever k operating on the dieplunger k<1>, by a two-part connecting-rod i, il the parts i, i<1> being kept substantially straight by a lever engaging an abutment i<3> on the part i, and exact alignment of the parts being prevented by abutments i<2>. Electric contacts are provided on the abutments i<2> in series with the switch d of the electric motor during the hydraulic device. A lever h<2> causes the upper end of the lever h to have a substantially vertical movement. A telescopic link l, l<1> connects the lever j to the rod f, the link l<1> being adjustable so that when the rod f has risen sufficiently to move the levers g, g<1> just beyond their dead centre, the lever is pushed upwardly and allows the rod i, i<1> to break thus stopping the electric motor driving the hydraulic device and causing the parts to return to normal position under the action of gravity assisted by the springs m, m<1>. A spring plunger n on the lever k engages a recess in a lever n<1> when the die b is in its raised position. A circuit-breaking device for regulating the length of time during which the die is in contact with the work may be provided. The platen or anvil a is mounted on a slide supported by a heavy spring o and adjustable in height by means of a quick-pitch spiral-block p which is held in adjusted position by a ratchet- and-pawl device p<1>, p<2>.
