Abstract
419,026. Fire - extinguishers. HUMBLET, J., 24, Rue Jacques RayÚ, Brussels. March 27, 1934, Nos. 9544 and 9545. Convention dates, March 27, 1933 and March 10, 1934. [Class 47 (ii).] A fire-extinguisher 1 of the kind in which a medium under pressure, such as carbondioxide, is confined by a seal 5 is provided with a discharge hose 2 embodying, adjacent the nozzle, a valve 12 which is operable by a lever 13 extending parallel to the handle 15. Thus, the operator can control the discharge of the medium and direct the nozzle with one hand. The piercer comprises a plunger 6 with a tubular lower end having a bevelled cutting edge 8. The tubular part is enlarged to form a shoulder 9. The piercer cuts out a portion of the seal 5, and the cut-out portion is driven into the tubular part, up to the shoulder 9, by the pressure of the released medium. The latter then acts on the plunger as a piston to force it outwardly. The external shoulder on the plunger then co-operates with packing 10 to seal the plunger. In a modification, the piercer is provided with a number of cutting teeth, and carries a flange to co-operate with the packing 10.
