[Class 52 (v).] A lay figure for the display of garments or material from a continuous length comprises trunk members 41, 42 of flat sheet or plate form relatively adjustable and mounted on but spaced from a supporting stand 31, and rigid or stay-put flexible limb members 43-46. The support 31 has an extension 32<1> carrying a vertically adjustable bracket 34 for a plate 35 with horizontal dovetail strips 20 upon which slide grooved portions 14 fixed to the back of the two body plates 41, 42, which are fixed in adjusted position by screws. A rod 32 telescopically adjustable in the extension 32<1> carries a horizontal square sleeve 6 in which slides a rod 32<11> the end 5 of which supports a ball 3 with a number of flexible wires 2 for a hat or coiffure. From the end 5 depends a square tube 8 in which is adjustable a rod carrying a shoulder plate 11 with sleeves 12<1> at the ends into which are inserted pins 12 on the arm members 43, 44. The leg members 45, 46 are detachably connected to the lower parts of the body plates, and both the arm and leg members may be rigid and a plurality of different interchangeable members used for different poses, or flexible and adapted to retain any pose. As shown the limbs 44, 45 comprise a central wire with a spiral steel wire wound around it, which may reproduce the outline of the limb. Bust members 22 provided on the body plates are adjustable by screws 23. A rubber band 48 at the waist serves for fixing skirts &c. and springs are provided at the rear of the plate 35 for clamping the garments. The hem of a skirt can be gripped at the lower ends of the leg members. A plate 27 covers seams &c. at the neck, and the shoulder portion 11 carries a holder 15 for a price ticket. For men's garments the body plates are shaped as shown in dotted lines. The stand 31 is connected to the base 30 by a hinge 37 and supported by a telescopic strut 17 pivoted-to an adjustable sleeve 19. By shifting the sleeve 19 and strut to the upper part 32<1> of the stand the parts can be arranged in a reclining position with the stand 31 inclined, or a sitting position, Fig. 2, in which the part 32<1> is attached directly to the base. The joint 37 may be a universal joint.
