Application May 9, 1947, Serial No. 746,990
1 Claim. (Cl. 223- 68) This invention relates to garment forms, and more particularly to garment forms especially designed for home use in making alterations in clothing, or in providing a form on which dresses or other garments may be supported while the fitting of the garment is accomplished.
An important object of the invention is to provide a garment form of this character which is made up of a plurality of sections so constructed and arranged with respect to each other that when they are brought together in a particular manner, the sections will provide a complete form of a predetermined size, means being provided for securing the sections together in such a way that adjustment of one section with respect to another section may be made, to vary the size of the completed form.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a form which is made up of sections that may be readily and easily disconnected or disassembled so that they may be conveniently stored in substantially small packages.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts, without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of a form constructed in accordance with the invention, the sections being assembled.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof, the lower portion of the pedestal having been removed.
Figure 3 is a rear elevational view of the form.
Figure 4 is a fragmental sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Figure 2, illustrating the split fastening means used in securing sections together.
Figure 5 is a fragmental perspective view illustrating the upper end of the upper section of the telescoping support and means for connecting the support to the form, including the shoulder bar.
Figure 6 is a view illustrating the various sections making up the front of the form, as disconnected.
Figure '7 is an assembled view indicating the various sections which when connected, make up the rear of the form.
Figure 8 is an elevational view of the neck section of the form.
Figure 9 is an enlarged view illustrating the rows of openings for the reception of the split fasteners used in connecting the sections, v
Referring to the drawings in detail, the form comprises a skirt including the front skirt section 5 and the rear skirt section 6, the skirt sections 5 and 6 being provided with openings 1 disposed along the side edges thereof, to receive the split fasteners 8 disposed along the upper edges thereof, so that the adjacent edges of the rear and front skirt sections may be connected, and the upper edges of the rear and front sections may be connected to the body portion of the form.
The side edges of the rear section are connected with the front section to permit of adjustment of the skirt sections with respect to each other, the adjustment being accomplished by positioning fasteners 8 in either row of openings 9, the openings 9 being arranged in rows spaced apart towards the center of the skirt section 6. thus, it will be obvious that by moving the fasteners into any particular row of openings, an adjustment of the rear skirt section with respect to the front skirt section, to reduce or enlarge the size of the skirt of the form, may be made.
The body of the form comprises the front waist section ill which has its upper edge constructed to provide a pointed section II that fits between the lower inner edges of the upper sections l2 and l 3. The sections I2 and I3 are formed with darts or cut-out portions M extending inwardly from the outer edges, and these darts or cut-out portions cause the upper sections to bulge, as shown by Figure 2 of the drawings, when the adjacent edges of the darts or cut-out portions M are brought together and secured by the headed removable fasteners l5 arranged adjacent thereto.
The inner edges and outer lower edges of these sections I2 and I3 are provided with a plurality of spaced rows of openings It for the reception of fasteners which also extend into the openings I! formed along the upper edge of the sections l0 and l I, the pointed end of section [8 overlapping the pointed end of section I l.
The chest section of the form is indicated by the reference character I8 and has openings 25 formed adjacent to the edge thereof adapted to cooperate with openings [6 of the upper sections l2 and I3, to adjust the size of the form at the chest.
The upper sections I2 and I3 are formed with cut-out portions l9 which provide openings for sleeves of the garment being fitted over the device.
The back of the form comprises the main back section 20 which is wide at its upper end and tapers towards the lower end, the upper edge of the back section being cut away as at 2|, providing an opening for the neck.
Secured along each side edge of the main back section is a section 22, which sections 22 are also wide at their upper ends and tapered towards the lower ends thereof, the sections 22 being formed with openings adapted to align with openings 23 and accommodate the fasten-l ers such as indicated at 8 securing the sections 22 to section 20.
Along the upper edges of the sections and 22, are spaced rows of openings 24 adapted to align with openings 25 and 26 formed along the upper edges of the sections l8, l2 and 3 respectively, to accommodate fastening members, so that adjustment of the sections may be made with respect to each other.
The outer edges of the members 22 are formed with spaced lines of openings 22 that register with openings '26 of the waist section III and with openings 24 of the sections 12 and [3 for the reception of split fasteners securing the sections together. 7
The reference character 28 indicates the coll ar section, which is provided with tabs that arealso formed with'openings adapted to register with the openings 25 of the section 18, in, It will be receiving split fastening members. noted that the end tabs of the collar section 28 are formed with spaced openings 30, so that any one of the openings may be used in adjusting the collar section for size. 7
- The pedestal of the garment form includes the base 31 and vertical tubular support 32 in which the rod 33 telescopes, there being provided a wing nut 34 for securing the rod 33 in its positions of adjustment. The cross-bar 35 has downwardly extended ends 38 formed with openings toaocommodate split fasteners that also pass through openings of the form securing the bar to the form, as previously described, the openings of the downwardly extended ends 36 being arranged in spaced relation with respect to each other for.
adjusting purposes. The rod 33 passes through an opening formed centrally of the cross-bar 3'5 and connects to the bar 33 that fits within the shoulders of the form, the shoulder brace adapted to rotate on the rod.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided a dress form which may be readily dis- 4. assembled and packed in a small and compact article to facilitate storing. It will'further be seen that because of the adjustablefeature, the one form will provide various sizes, and one section of the form may be adjusted with respect to another section to allow for a variation of the construction of the dress positioned on the form.
It will also be noted that while the sections of the form are readily disconnected, thesections Q when assembled will present a form over which a garment, when fitted, will present an'attractive and an aesthetic shape or configuration, so as to display. the garment inlike manner, when worn. 'It is to be understood that the type of material used may be varied to meet requirements of use, 7 although it has been contemplated to use an in-,
expensive light weight semi-flexible material which is capable of bending to form the desired shape, when the sections are assembled.
What is claimed is: p v V 'In an adjustable and collapsible garment form, a main central back section and side sections secured along the side edges of the back section,
, said sections having, spaced lines'of openings formed adjacent to the front waist section providing a central upwardly extended pointed portion, a 'substantially'triengula-r chest section with one of its ends directed downwardly towards andin adi ect line with the pointed portion of the waist 7 upper edges thereof," a
- tions, and said upper front sections having gus sets extending inwardly from the -inner lower side edges thereof whereby said upper side sections assume bulged shape when the upper side-sections are secured to the waist sectionandfchest section and said upper side sections having arm openings. V
