[Class 99 (i).] In a pipe joint of the kind in which the abutting pipe ends have connecting flanges or collars and packing subjected to the fluid pressure in the pipes is arranged in one or more wedge-shaped spaces in the faces of the joint with one of the converging walls of the space parallel to the axis of the pipe, each packing ring f is freely movable in the space and is a recessed or solid triangular ring of highly heat-resisting material having a relatively small degree of elasticity. The packing ring may have one or more circumferential grooves in its jointing faces.
