Abstract
416,582. Liquid &c. containers. PHILLIPS, C. S., and PHILLIPS TELESCOPIC TAPS, Ltd., 62, Pall Mall, London. March 13, 1933, No. 7595. [Class 21.] A discharge valve for a container such as a metal drum or wooden barrel comprises a shutter-valve rotatable by a handle which may fold to lie within a shallow dished member of uniform depth, the valve seat being formed on the inner surface of the dished member. The shutter-disc 10 with aperture 12 is rotated about a bolt 11 by a handle 17 foldable about a hinge 17b, and is adjustably pressed by a spring plate 14 against a washer 9 inserted in the outlet aperture 4 formed in a lamina or laminµ 1. A flange 2 turned over at 3 is formed on the lamina 1 or attached to the container. The lamina 1 may be formed by part of the wall of a metal container. For transit, the folded handle may be sealed by a thin metal cap 19. A non-return check-valve 36, laterally displaced from the outlet 4, may be provided in a partition 34 to prevent unauthorised refilling. The valvedevice is preferably fitted to the base within the chimbs, but may be fitted in a vertical wall. The shutter may be mounted in a shallow housing containing cork packing-discs, both the valve and discs being tapered to produce progressive compression of the discs when closing the valve. Figs. 9 to 11 show how the flange 3 of the body may be attached to a short neck 50 on the container, the contacting parts being first pressed outwardly by a conical tool or by a rolling operation, and then pressed flat. According to the Provisional Specification a non-folding handle may be locked in the edge of a chimb.
