Abstract
415,862. Stays ; clamps. DOLEY, R. C., and DOLEY, A. H., 126, Northwood Street, and OLDS, S., 54, Wellhead Lane, Perry Barr, both in Birmingham. May 17, 1933, No. 14220. [Classes 44 and 65 (i).] In a casement or like stay comprising a rod or tube passing through a sleeve having a gripping member for frictional engagement with the rod, the sleeve has an internally tapered collar at each end and a split or slotted tubular gripping member mounted on the rod inside the sleeve between these collars and having externally-tapered ends to fit inside the collars, one of the collars being adjustable to force the gripping member into both collars to close it round the rod to clamp the latter. In the form shown, the rod 4 is pivoted at one end to the door or like frame and the sleeve 11 is pivotally mounted on a lug 9 on the door. The sleeve has an adjustable collar 14, with hand wheel, secured on one end, and this collar and the other end of the sleeve are internally tapered at 13 to engage correspondingly-shaped ends of a tubular gripping member 18 within the sleeve; by screwing on the collar 14, the split ends 20 of the member 18 are forced into the tapered parts 13 and are thus closed round the rod 4 to hold the door in any position. The member 18 may be split from end to end on one side, or may be formed in two separate halves. The sleeve and rod may be mounted on swivel or ball joints instead of plain pivots.
