Abstract

414,986. Driving-gear; valve gear. RENWICK, W. S., 67, Sterndale Road, West Kensington, London. Feb. 24, 1934, No. 6081. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi).] In a two-stroke compressionignition engine, the crank pin 23 moves in a transverse slot in a slide 18 secured to pistons working in opposed cylinders. At least two pairs of cylinders are used, with a common crank pin. Slide valves 26 are actuated through linkwork consisting of a pivoted bell-crank lever 37 and links 36, 39 attached to the valve and slide 18 respectively. Adjustable eccentric pivots are provided for the levers 37 and for a lever connecting them. A blower supplies air, at a pressure increasing with engine speed, to terminal inlet ports 28. Spark or hot-wire ignition may be used at starting, being cutout automatically when the increasing blower pressure moves a spring-loaded piston.
