365,887. 'Two-stroke engines. DOPSON, W. E., 15, Thornton Road, Mortlake, London. April 2, 1931, No. 10124. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi).] Valves; valve gear.-In a twostroke engine compressing the charge behind the piston, the admission of the charge from the crank case to the pump chamber G through an opening B is controlled by a flat slide valve D attached by a ball joint C to the connecting- rod and pressed against its seating by springs, the charge being compressed on the outstroke of the piston through the usual transfer port, H controlled only by the edge of the piston. In a modification, the slide valve is arranged in a box fixed between the cylinder and crank case. The invention may be applied to opposed-cylinder, radial-cylinder, or other multicylinder engines.
