Abstract

An alloy consisting essentially of copper, nickel, aluminium, and tin, with or without up to 37 per cent zinc, having an aluminium content of 0,5-5 per cent, preferably 1-3 per cent, a nickel content of 1,5-15 per cent and equal to about 3-4 times the aluminium content, and a tin content of 0,5-15 per cent is hardened by rapid cooling from a temperature of the order of 900 DEG C. followed by reheating at about 300-600 DEG C. An alloy containing 88,5 per cent copper, 4 per cent tin, 6 per cent nickel, and 1,5 per cent aluminium is hardened by quenching from 900 DEG C. and reheating for two hours at 500 DEG C. Specification 386,017 is referred to.
