Abstract
412,683. Envelopes. BULL, F. W., 19, Water Lane, Ludgate Hill, London. Feb. 14, 1933, No. 4558. [Class 146 (ii).] A device for retaining the sealing flap of an envelope in the closing position, but permitting of the withdrawal of the flap, comprises a slit member secured or adapted to be secured by adhesive to the back of the envelope, whereby the slit can be engaged by the sealing flap. In the case of an envelope provided with a square closing flap b, the flap-retaining member a is provided with an upwardly curved slit d forming a tongue behind which the flap b is inserted. The member a is attached to the back of the envelope by gummed edges e. In the case of an envelope provided with a triangular closing flap, a straight horizontal slit is formed in the flap-retaining member for the reception of the closing flap, and, in addition to the sides, the retaining member may be gummed over its lower surface, but leaving an ungummed portion under which the flap may be inserted. To facilitate application, the retaining member may be placed in position on the closing flap, damped, and then folded over with the flap on to the back of the envelope.
