412,639. Stereotype. CRABTREE, C. H., Hillcrest, Thorner, and CRABTREE & SONS, Ltd., R. W., Water Lane, both in Leeds. Jan. 6, 1933, No. 544. [Class 100 (ii).] In stereotype-plate casting-apparatus of the kind in which the matrix is held in contact with the back of the mould by suction, the back is formed hollow or is provided with a cavity in which cooling-fluid circulates and which is traversed by the air exhaust passages. The back of the mould, which, as shown, is adapted for the casting of curved plates, is formed of an outer member a recessed so as to form, in combination with an intermediate member c seated on magazine portions a<1>, a cavity b, and an inner member d against which the matrix is held and which is spaced from the intermediate member by marginal portions c<1> and projections c<2> to form a space e. The spaces b, e are fluidtight, the positions of the members a, c, d being regulated by bolts and screws a<2>, c<3>. The space b is connected to a vacuum pump, and registering apertures, arranged over the whole surfaces of the members c, d, are connected by tubes f. Cooling-liquid is circulated in the space e. In a modification, the members c, d are replaced by a single hollow body having its walls connected by pillars through which holes are formed to act as air passages.
