[Class 14 (i).] In an apparatus for aerating liquids in bottles, the gas-delivery device 5, Fig. 2, is provided with trunnions 6 working in vertical slots 7 in the side wings of a wall-bracket 1 and is also provided with pins 8 working in bent slots 9, so as to permit pivoting of the device to allow passing of the bottle 40 over the gas-delivery pipe 27 before its engagement with a holder 17 and then downward movement of the device 5 against the action of springs, not shown, to bring it into gas-tight engagement with the lip of the bottle. The downward movement is effected by levers 10 engaging the pins 8, the levers 10 being locked when depressed by levers 13 carrying a catch strip 15 engaging serrations 16 on the levers 10. A cover 20 hinged at 19 is placed over the bottle before aeration. Depression of the device 5 before the cover is in position is prevented by a slotted locking plate 22 closing the vertical limb of one of the slots 9 ; the locking plate is displaced by engagement of the top plate 26 of the cover 20. The cover is retained in position by a V-shaped strip 21 on the levers 10. In modifications the levers 10 are depressed by a foot treadle or by toggle mechanism. The holder 17 comprises a plate 42, Fig. 6, having a cut away portion 43 ; plates 45 pivoted at 44 are engaged by the underside of the bulge 49 and rotated to engage the right-hand stops 47 in which position the bottle is secured. The plates 45 may be restored to the open position by a light spring 51. The tube 27, Fig. 2, is provided with a fine nozzle 29 and is connected at its upper end through a valve, not shown, with a supply pipe 33. The outer part of the device 5 is connected through a snifting valve, not shown, actuated by a press-button, with a pipe 34, connected through a spray trap 36 with the atmosphere. A counting device 41 is actuated by the movement of the trunnions 6. Alternatively the bottle may be secured by an adjustable platform 18. In the supporting arrangement shown in Fig. 10, the platform 18 is provided with pins 53, 79 engaging respectively slots 78 and recesses 80 whereby it may be swung clear of the base to the position shown in dotted lined. In a modification, the platform is mounted on a screw for vertical adjustment.
