Abstract
412,095. Discharge apparatus. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., 28, Kingsway, London. Nov. 2, 1933, No. 30453. Convention date, Nov. 2, 1932. [Class 39 (i).] Cooling-fluid is guided tangentially through and withdrawn centrally from the cooling- chamber 7 of a mercury vapour rectifier 1 or other electric discharge apparatus so as to avoid eddies and deposition of suspended substances from the cooling-fluid. Inlets 5, 6, which may have nozzles, may be arranged in the bottom, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and the outlet 8 at the centre of the base, which is preferably conical. A guide projection 11 may be placed on the top of the chamber above the outlet. In another arrangement the tangential inlets may be at the sides of the chamber above the level of the downwardly projecting bottom of the cathode reservoir, and a raised outlet may be provided at the centre of the base of the cooling-chamber. In other arrangements the inlets may be radial or parallel to the axis, and a baffle may be fitted as shown at 10, Fig. 6, to guide the fluid in a tangential path.
