Abstract
748,376. High vacuum pump. EDWARDS & CO. (LONDON), Ltd., W. Oct. 1, 1953, No. 27001/53. Class 71. A vapour vacuum pump is provided with means for causing the discharged gas to accelerate and subsequently impinge upon a surface to change direction in order to separate pump liquid entrained therein. A chamber 7 is connected to the outlet 11 of the separating chamber 12 of a pump 8 and comprises a plurality of " scrubbers " 15 each of which comprises a first plate 3 apertured at 5 to cause the gas to accelerate, and a plate 4 against which the gas impinges, provided with holes 6 of larger nett area. In addition gauze discs 16 are provided. The scrubbers are interchangeable to suit various gas flow rates or the apertures in the first plate may be made adjustable. The chamber 7 may replace the normal separator chamber. In a modification the scrubbers comprise concentric cup-shaped apertured members.
