Abstract

<PICT:0412069/III/1> In separating lubricating oils from a starting mixture containing lubricating-oil, a non-volatile residuum and a diluent oil by flash vaporization and condensation as described in the parent Specification, the starting mixture is derived from a crude having a small content of non-volatile residuum which is increased in the known manner before the flash distillation by addition of similar non-volatile heat storage medium. The apparatus comprises three columns 6, 18, 32 as described in the parent Specification and the bottoms collecting in the column 18 which are flash distilled by passing them through a heater 31 into the column 32 are mixed with diluent oil supplied through a pipe 28 from the column 6 and also with non-volatile residuum recirculated from the column 32 through a pipe 36.
