Abstract

410,732. Electric clocks. FERY, C. J. V., 28, Rue de l'Arbalete, Paris. Aug. 18, 1932, No. 23187. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 30, 1932]. [Class 139.] In a timepiece in which the balance or pendulum is maintained electrically and drives the movement, the contact maker of the impulse circuit comprises a disc mounted eccentrically on the balance or pendulum axis and situated between the forked arms of a lever through which it transmits the drive to the escape wheel. As applied to a watch, the disc 2, Fig. 1, mounted on the balance staff 1, comprises conducting and insulated portions 2, 2b respectively, and the balance comprises astatic magnets 7, 7, Fig. 2, adapted to swing about flat coils 8, 8, but a single flattened coil wound about the lower magnet may be used instead. The coil circuit is closed during clockwise movement of the balance by the portion 2 engaging and rocking the form arm 3 until the sliding contact is broken by the portion 2b engaging the fork arm. During anticlockwise movement of the disc 2 the circuit is broken, the fork remaining in its terminal position until the arm 3 is engaged by the portion 2b and rocked to the other terminal position. The pallets 5, 5b of the fork drive the escape wheel in the usual manner but the anchor escapement shown may be replaced by any other suitable type. In a modified construction the disc 2 is made wholly of insulating material and a conducting strip is secured to a portion of its periphery corresponding to 2, and electrically connected to the balance spindle. As applied to a pendulum clock the disc 15 having conducting and insulated portions 15a, 15b respectively, is mounted on the pendulum 10 which is maintained in oscillation by the interaction between a permanent magnet 12 thereon and a fixed coil 11, or by any other suitable combination of coil and magnet. The fork has diverging arms 16, 16b ending in pins 18, 18b and current is led thereto through a spring 19, the movements of the fork axis 17 advancing the train through an escape wheel.
