Abstract

408,713. Lubricating axle bearings. PEYINGHAUS, W., Egge, near Volmarstein, Ruhr, Germany. Oct. 31, 1932, No. 30524. [Classes 12 (ii) and 12 (iii).] In an axle-box for railway vehicles in which the lubrication is effected from above, an oil-carrying disc f rotates in a groove i which gradually decreases axially in the circumferential direction down to a gap of sufficient width for the disc f to pass through it without oil being scraped off, and oil ducts l facing and receiving oil from the narrowest part of the gap lead to the points of lubrication. The tapering effect of the groove extends up to the narrowest part of the gap so that the oil pressure gradually increases up to this point. The disc f has segments g and the groove i is formed between a collar e on the bearing d and a member h screwed on to the collar e. The member h may form part of the axle-box cover. Overflow oil ducts k are formed in the member hand passages m in the bearing d lead from the ducts l to the journal a. The member h may be positioned on the collar e by means of a flange.
