Oil, retaining. - To prevent the escape of oil from a railway-vehicle axle-box or a shaft bearing, a flanged ring 2 fixed to the rotating axle 1 intercepts and collects oil from the bearing 8 and de. livers it to a reservoir 4 when the vehicle stops. The ring has coned edges 5 and may have partition rings 7 as shown. In a modification, the ring 2 rotates in an opening in the dust-shield 9.
