Abstract

408,284. Loud - speakers. CARLING, F. R., 116, Regents Park Road, London. Oct. 1, 1932, No. 27314. [Class 40 (iv).] A moving coil loud-speaker comprises a pair of series-connected oppositely wound moving coils 14, 15 each located in a separate air gap 9, 10 of a permanent or electromagnet, the arrangement being such that the inductanceresistance ratio of the speech coil system is reduced to a minimum. As shown, the magnet system comprises a central laminated core 1 secured by a bolt 2 to a non-magnetic frame 3 attached to pole pieces 4, 5 in the form of bars connected together by distance pieces 6 and enclosing an energizing coil 8. The sense of the polarizing fields in the gaps 9, 10 are arranged in opposition. The core 1 is preferably formed by placing a number of strips side by side, the two outer strips being appreciably thicker than the inner ones, to form a bar out of which the finished circular core is turned. The coil cylinder 12 may be supported at each end by a resilient washer, the rear one being shown at 16, and the leads to the coils 14, 15 may be secured to these washers or the lead to coil 14 may be secured to the cone 11.
