Abstract

407,999. Sound reproducing and transmitting devices. SWIFT, LEVICK, & SONS, Ltd., and HORSBURGH, G. D. L., Clarence Steel Works, Sheffield. Sept. 29, 1932, No. 27107. [Class 40 (iv).] A magnet with a narrow air-gap, such as those employed in sound reproducing and transmitting apparatus consists of a body of magnet steel, in one or more pieces and having a base portion to which is secured a pole-piece and which is connected by loop-like limbs or claws to an upper portion having an opening surrounding the pole-piece, so that the magnet steel of the body comes up to the airgap. The Figure shows a section of such a magnet in which the body is in one piece, comprising the base portion 3, the limbs 4, 5 and the upper portion 6. The pole-piece 8 is secured to the body by a screw 9 and, to facilitate insertion the upper portion 10 is separate from the remainder and secured thereto by a screw. Alternatively, the lower portion may be formed by a separate washer. The upper portion 6 of the body may be formed of a separate plate of magnet steel secured to the limbs 4, 5. The pole-piece 8 may be of soft iron or may be constructed as described in Specification 407,998. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 385,648.
