407,796. Copying-lathes. KIRCHNER, E., 6, Thorerstrasse, Leutzsch, Leipsic, Germany. Dec. 29, 1932, No. 36820. [Class 83 (iii).] In a copying- machine for making wooden articles such as chair legs, head models, shoe lasts, shoe heels, toys, spokes, hammer handles and the like, two rotary work pieces 44, 45 mounted one above the other are turned simultaneously by two tools 16, 15, respectively, mounted on a common compound slide rest and controlled by a single pattern 14 mounted laterally below the work-pieces. The work pieces are mounted between centres carried by a head stock 2 and tailstock 3 and are rotated by gearing 34 .. 38 from a driven sleeve 30. The pattern is mounted between centres 11, 12 carried by stocks adjustable on the rear wall 8 of the bed and is also driven from the sleeve 30. The cutter spindles 18, 19 are mounted on a slide 17 movable transversely on a longitudinal slide 20. An extension 21 of the transverse slide, carries a roller 23 engaging the pattern, engagement between roller and pattern being maintained by a weight 24. A screw 29 serves to adjust the slide 17 relatively to its extension 21. The cutter spindles are driven by belts from a motor 39 mounted on the transverse slide, and the longitudinal slide is operated by a screw 31<a>.
