Abstract
407,126. Vehicle suspensions. TALBOT, F. J., Globe Steel Works, Sheffield. Oct. 25, 1932, No. 29825. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii).] Two rigid links are pivoted at their inner ends near to the centre of a semi-elliptic laminated-spring, the ends of which are free to slide freely, and their outer ends are connected in the usual manner to a vehicle frame or axle. Each link has an enlargement fixed or formed on one end for taking tensile and compressive loads but allowing for twisting and bearings for the enlargements are pivoted to the frame, axle or spring. In one form, spherical enlargements 22 are mounted in sockets 23 and the link 1 is formed with an eye 3 connected by a stirrup 16 to the spring 17. In a modification, the links 1 are disposed beneath two laminated springs articulated on the vehicle frame and connecting two axles of a six-wheeled vehicle. In a further modification, the ends of a laminated spring connecting two axles slide on housings for the sockets which are secured to the axles. The eyes 3 may be integral with the links or may be formed by screwing and locking a sleeve integral with an eye on the ends of the links. The enlargements may be formed by a nut 5, Fig. 2, locked in position by a rivet 8, the housing being formed by screwing a sleeve on to a forging 9. In a modification of this construction an apertured sleeve, providing for insertion of the nut, is formed integral with the forging. In another form, a hemispherical enlargement 14, Fig. 4, is housed between a forging 9 and a sleeve 7. The forging 9 has a surface 18 engaging the spring and the stirrup 16 is formed with sinuous sides facilitating relative movement between the spring and stirrup. In a further form the enlargement is formed by riveting the end of link over a nut screwed thereon. Specification 370,612 is referred to.
