[Class 126.] Gas fires ; radiants ; heat-retainers.-A heataccumulating block of refractory material comprising one or more internal chambers which have relatively thick walls and are closed on all sides and open at top and bottom, the chambers being internally heated by bunsen flames, is characterized by the provision of a refractory mantel B, within the chamber, or of studs a<4> on the inner walls of the block, or of both together. Fig. 1 shows a block formed in two parts, a<3> being the exit for the gases. The block shown in Fig. 4 is provided with external studs a<5> in addition to the internal studs a<4>, and the gas outlets a<3> are in the ends. The front wall of the block may be thickened at the upper end, the front face of the thickened part being upwardly and forwardly inclined. Fig. 7 shows one form of such a block, in which the upper part of the internal chamber is enlarged and contains a division member D, the gases passing out through apertures a<7>, a<8> in the front and top. Fig. 9 shows a further modification, in which the gases pass up a passage formed between a front casing C and the inclined front face of an upward extension of the rear wall of the block and thence through a horizontal passage a<10>. In a further form, the gases pass from the top of the chamber to a passage formed between the block and an external casing, and extending over and down the front of the front wall and thence beneath the block to the rear. In another form the block is provided with an internal partition, over the top and down the rear of which the gases pass to the bottom of the block. Fig. 13 shows a two-part block containing three internal chambers.
