Abstract
404,064. Knitting-machines. GRIEVE & CO., Ltd., T., and GRIEVE, T. S., Queen Street, Leicester. Aug. 10, 1932, No. 22394. [Class 74 (ii).] The holding-down sinkers or web holders 4 of a superposed rotary needle cylinder machine are mounted on the outside of the needle cylinders. Each sinker 4 is furnished with an operating butt 4a, a rib 5 and throat 6 for holding down the knitted loops, and a horizontal draw edge 7 over which an associated needle 8 draws yarn in loop formation and which assists in casting the old loop off the needle. A sinker cam ring 15 is mounted coaxially with the sinker bed 2. The invention is applied mainly to machines having doubleended latch needles 8 and transferring jacks or sliders 13, and in which the cylinders have rotary reciprocating as well as continuous rotary motion for the production of seamless hosiery. The sliders 13 in the bottom cylinder may be raised subsequently to their passage through the plain cam system so that their upper ends 37 act as latch guards to the needles associated with the upper sliders.
