[Classes 75 (iii) and 126.] A stove comprises, in combination, a hollow block A of firebrick or other refractory material heated internally by gas or vapour burners B ; an imitation (non-heating) fire E in front of the heating part of the stove ; and means such as the incandescent burner F, for illuminating the imitation fire independently of the heating flames. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the block A is formed with a front enlargement a<1> for heat-storing purposes, and with studs a<3> to collect heat from the burners. Air is heated in a passage C between the block and outer casing and delivered at the front of the stove. The glass or other translucent imitation fuel slab E is illuminated from the burner F through the medium of a translucent panel a<7> and mirrors f<1>.In the form shown in Fig. 3 the gases and air heated in the block A are delivered to the room, in part from the top of the block, and in part through holes a<5> in the front. The imitation fire is provided with a front portion E<2> and bars e, and is illuminated through an inclined screen f<2>. In other modifications, the block A has both front and rear walls vertical, the flue connection being at one side ; or is of similar external form to that shown in Fig. 3, but has the top portion of the internal space enlarged and provided with a flue connection at the rear, instead of being open at the top. The blocks may be covered, and also lined internally, with polished metal, such as copper. Imitation fires formed of glass lumps are shown, the illuminating burners in one case being arranged beneath the cage or the silica or quartz shield on which they are supported. Opaque " fuel may be used, illuminated by light falling directly or reflected on to it. Flicker devices may be provided. The burners may be lit by a pilot burner mounted on the gas cock which supplies it, so that it may be swung out of the stove for ignition, the return movement first bringing it into position to light the burners and subsequently cutting off the gas supply to it. The burners may alternatively be lit through an opening in the front of the stove closed by a door to which the imitation fire is attached. Specification 361,608 is referred to.
