[Class 100 (iv).] In ink-ribbon mechanism, particularly for use in duplicating-arrangements for typewriters, of the kind described in Specification 402,484, the spool-brakes engage the faces of discs forming part of the spools, and the ribbon-feeding means may be arranged to increase the pressure of the spool-brakes for the purpose of locking the spools. The spools may be mounted in a cage which is detachably mounted in a frame connected to the carriage. The spools L, Figs. 3, 5, and 6, are revoluble on a shaft 30 in a cage M detachably mounted in a frame K which is connected to the carriage B and a paper-table I and is provided with rollers 7 running on a rail 8. The cage is provided with pins 60, 61 for engaging holes in the frame, and is provided also with securing-screws 64, 65 for engaging slotted lugs 18, 19 on the frame. The shaft is detachably mounted in the cage and is retained by a pivoted catch 32. The cage can be removed through an opening at the rear of the frame, and the spools can be removed from the cage by withdrawing the shaft. A shaft 41 mounted in arms 40, 40a on the cage carries loose brake-collars 42 .. 49, engaging the faces of discs 37 forming part of the spools, the brake-collars 44, 47 being telescopic and being provided with springs 52 for holding the set of brake-collars in engagement with the discs. A collar 57 on the shaft has a camprojection 58 co-operating with a cam-groove 56 in a stationary block 55, an arm 59 on the collar being arranged in the path of a pin 68 on a rock-arm 66 connected to linkage 69, 70, 73 operated by the line-spacing lever. Before completion of the ribbon-feeding movement, the arm 59 is rocked, the shaft 41 is moved relatively to the brake-collars by means of the cam-projection 58, and the pressure of the brake-collars on the discs is increased to lock the spools, and thereby cause the ribbons to be tightened during the final part of the feedmovement.
