Abstract

402,137. Rotary refuse-consuming furnaces. CHRISTENSEN, A., 147, Oresundsvej, Copenhagen. May 27, 1932, No. 15150. [Class 51 (i).] In rotary furnaces fed with refuse from a non-rotating ignition grate 11 with an underlying blast chamber 12 the rear wall of the blast chamber comprises an air box 16 projecting into the rotary furnace 14 and fitted with an easily exchangeable tightening plate 17 the edge of which is circular and fits against the furnace lining to prevent escape of the material through the gap between the stationary and rotary parts. The tightening plate may consist of segments and bears against a ring 22 of carborundum or other wear-resisting material inserted in the lining 15 of the furnace. The air box 16 communicates with the blast chamber 12 by holes 19 and its rear and top walls 16<1>, 16<11> have holes 20 giving a flow of air through the box for cooling. Holes 21 are also provided in the tightening plate 17 and are offset from the holes 20. The side walls adjacent the grate consist of air boxes 23, 24 connected by boxes 27, 28, Fig. 5, and provided with holes 26. The air may bo supplied to the side wall boxes 23 and pass through the boxes 24, 16 and through the holes 19 to the blast chamber 12 below the grate 11.
