Abstract
401,159. Raising vehicles and other loads. MARTIN, H. L. J., 22, Boulevard de la Soussaie, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. Feb. 24, 1933, No. 5728. Convention date, Feb. 29, 1932. [Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (v).] In lifting-apparatus comprising angularlymovable crossed arms 4, 5 resting upon the ground, the arms are raised by thrust-members such as rollers 7, 8 which are moved towards each other in the lateral angles between the arms. As shown two pairs of arms 4, 5 are pivoted on an axle 3, but this axle serves only as a guide and may be omitted. The rollers 7, 8 engage curved surfaces on the arms and may be drawn together by a cable 44 passed around pulley-blocks 42 and wound on a motor-driven winch 47 at the end of each arm 5. The two winches are driven from one motor by a common shaft 53. In another form, Fig. 1 (not shown), the rollers 7, 8 are drawn together by screw-andnut gear through connections which may include universal joints, both pairs of arms being actuated through gearing from a motor arranged at the outside of one pair of arms with its spindle in line with the axle 3. In both forms the motor is stopped automatically when the apparatus is fully extended by engagement of the roller 7 with a switch-actuating lever on the arm, and when the apparatus is lowered, by engagement of an abutment on the arm 5 with the same lever. As shown, the arms 4, 5 are fitted with rollers 9, 10, at both ends and support vehicle runways 11 with inclined ends 17, and the runways 11 are connected with the arms 5 by links. Corresponding wheels 9 of each pair of arms are mounted on a common shaft 34. In modifications not illustrated, the links are omitted, one arm of each pair being pivoted to the runway 11 and the other to a base-plate.
