Abstract

400,816. Feeding sheets &c. SOC. DE L'OUTILLAGE R. B. V., 13, Passage des Tourelles, Paris. Feb. 2, 1933, No. 3205. Convention date, Feb. 2, 1932. [Class 100 (i).] In a cancelling-machine for envelopes in which the latter are transferred successively from a pile by a movable sucker, the sucker is connected by an' air passage with a fixed cylinder in which a piston is slidably mounted and actuated mechanically and directly by the same member which moves a support for the sucker, the piston producing the suction necessary for the sucker during the active stroke of the latter. The envelopes 1 are piled on a slotted table, or on a flexible band, or, as shown in the Figure, on two spaced flexible bands 4 carried by a broad adjustable pulley 5 and by two pulleys 6 preferably mounted on separate shafts. The envelopes are passed between a spring-pressed pivotally mounted printing-roller 2 and a member having rotating or sliding movement, or between the bands 4 and the roller 2. The sucker 3 may be of rubber, and may be moved in a rectangular path, descending vertically from the envelope upon the travelling bands 4 at the end of its stroke, returning at a lower level, and ascending vertically into contact with the bottom envelope in the pile. The sucker is connected by a pin- and-slot means to a support 16 movable along guides 17 by a connecting-rod 18 secured to both pulleys 6. A crank arm 21 pivoted at 22 is provided with one or two rollers 25 adapted to co-operate with either one or two cams on one of the shafts of the pulleys 6, and actuates a lever 20 attached to the support 16 to produce the lowering and raising of the sucker 3. The rod 18 is secured to a piston 26 slidable in a stationary cylinder 28, and the cylinder is connected by flexible piping 15 to the sucker 3. The cylinder 28 has apertures 29 adapted to be uncovered by the piston when the sucker 3 reaches the end of its forward stroke, and an annular perforated shutter may be provided.to regulate the flow of air through the apertures. If desired the apertures 29 may be connected to an air-compressor so that the vacuum in the cylinder may be more quickly destroyed. The pulleys 6 are driven either by hand by means of a crank, or by a motor. The magazine for the envelopes comprises a wall 11 adjustable vertically so that the lower edge can be set at varying distances from the bands 4, a flexible rubber &c. member 13 attached to the wall 11 near the bottom edge so as to be adjustable vertically, and a wall 37 projecting from the machine. The bands 4, or the machine, may be inclined to ensure that the envelopes rest against the walls 11, 37. The printing-roller 2 is actuated by gear wheels from the shaft of one of the pulleys 6, and is inked by an inking-roller 36. The sucker 3 may.travel with a simple backward and forward movement, and may be disposed above the pile of envelopes, in which case the latter would be supported on a vertically movable support.
