Abstract
398,366. Jointing tubes to plates. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Universag Technische Akt.-Ges. ; Glarus, Switzerland.) Nov. 17, 1932, No. 32516. [Class 99 (i).] In a joint between a fire tube c of a boiler and the tube plate g wherein an annular shoulder a near the end of the tube bears against said plate, the tube end b is made of harder material than the plate and the shoulder is provided with one or more sharpedged annular projections d adapted to be forced into the material of the plate by axial pressure applied to the tube during assembly. The axial pressure is maintained during the flanging of the extreme end h of the tube, this latter operation causing the material of the tube plate to be forced into the grooves formed by the said projections d. In a modification the shoulder is formed of soft or ductile metal and the plate of harder metal with annular projections surrounding the holes thereof.
